Fruit names

Today we will talk about the names of fruits, but as there are too many that exist, we will only focus on the best known or the most popular, also mentioning their main characteristics.

 

Characteristics and names of better known fruits

Olive.

Its scientific name is “Olea europea”, although it is also known as olive, olive or olivera. It belongs to the Oleaceae family, it is known for being a perennial tree that reaches up to 15 meters in height.

Avocado.

The avocado, also known as “Persea americana”, is a fruit native to Mexico and Central America. It is recognized for its great commercial value and thanks to the fact that it can be grown in tropical and Mediterranean climates around the world, it is one of the most popular fruits.

Apricot.

Mentioning the names of fruits, we find the apricot. Its scientific name is “Prunus armeniaca” and it belongs to the Rosaceae family; it is known for being an obsolete tree that can reach a height of between 3 to 10 meters. Its leaves are oval and with a length of up to 9 cm; its fruit is edible, yellowish with reddish tones.

Almond.

The scientific name of the almond is “Prunus amygdalus” and it also belongs to the rosacea family. Its habitat is mainly in Asia, although it is also cultivated in places with warm Mediterranean climates. The almond tree reaches up to 10 meters high.

Hazelnut.

The scientific name of the hazelnut is “Corylus avellana”; it is a nut that is characterized by having a spheroidal shape and a diameter of between 10 to 15 mm. The seed is surrounded by a fibrous shell and a smooth cover. This shell dries when the hazelnut is ripe and is one of the best known fruit names and used in desserts and recipes.

Cherry.

The scientific name of the cherry is “Prunus cerasus”; famous for being one of the most used fruits to purify the body and eliminate toxins. Cherry fruit is rich in vitamins A, B, C, E, K and PP, plus it also contains magnesium, iron, sulfur and potassium.

Plum.

It is a fleshy fruit with a single seed inside, surrounded by a woody endocarp. There are many varieties of plums, both in color and size; some have white pulp, others yellow and others red.

Coconut.

In this case it is a tropical fruit that is obtained from the coconut tree. Within our list of fruit names, we could not miss the coconut, which is characterized by having an extremely hard and thick outer shell, however the pulp inside is white, softer and aromatic. This fruit can measure between 20 to 300 cm and reach a weight of up to 2.5 kg.

Raspberry.

The scientific name of the raspberry is “Rubus idaeus”; It is a fruit native to Europe and Asia that occurs in perennial shrub between 1.5 to 2.5 meters high. Its cultivation is easy, so it spreads smoothly when it is not controlled; it resembles blackberry, although it is softer and smaller.

Strawberry.

The scientific name of the strawberry is “Fragaria vesca”, with simple stems and leaves that are grouped in false rosettes. Its habitat is found throughout Europe, Asia and also in some regions of America where it has been introduced.

Grenade.

It is a fruit that occurs in the pomegranate, a small fruit tree that belongs to the family dLythraceae. It is a shrub that reaches a height of up to 5 meters, with a right trunk and a cracked bark. The fruit is reddish or reddish yellow.

Guava.

Its scientific name is “Psidium guajava”; it is easily grown in Mexico, Central and South America. Guava is an evergreen fruit tree that reaches a height of between 3 to 6 meters. Its fruit has a great taste and is used very often in food.

Kiwi.

This is a fruit that occurs in a vine that is called Kiwi and belongs to the family of Actinidiaceae. This vine can climb for up to 8 meters, has a woody stem and its leaves are oval. The fruit is brown skin covered with beautiful, with green flesh and small seeds.

Lemon.

Its scientific name is “Citrus Limonum Riso, Citrus limon“. It belongs to the family of rutaceae, its leaves are toothed and finished in point, while the fruit can reach up to 21.5 cm in diameter.

Mango.

It is a tropical fruit that is native to Asia, famous for its sweet taste and for being also a fruit with antioxidant properties. It is rich in acids, vitamin C and vitamin A, plus it contains carotenoirdes and is known to help maintain eye health.

Apple.

The scientific name of the apple is “Malus domestica Borkh”, it is a fruit that can be grown in many parts of the world, whose deciduous tree called apple tree, reaches a height of up to 15 meters. Its leaves are oval or elliptical, while the fruit is a knob that can vary in color and reaches a size of more than 5 cm in height.
