Health benefits of Manga Carlotinha

The carlotinha sleeve is a kind of very traditional manga in some regions of Brazil. However, it is not among the most widely cultivated types of mangoes in the country. Carlotinha manga originates from Asia, although today it is consolidated in Brazilian territory.

Quite different from other types of mango, as we will see in this article, the carlotinha mango is very sweet and juicy and, therefore, very tasty. Another characteristic of this fruit is that it has few fibers compared to others, which will allow you to taste it without the lint getting stuck in your teeth and ending up bothering you.


The curiosity of this manga lies in the origin of its name. Legend has it that the fruit is so named because there was a mango tree in the home of Carlota Joaquina, wife of Dom João VI and queen consort of Portugal, Brazil and the Algarves.

To escape the French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte, who was conquering much of Western Europe and was threatening to invade Portugal, the Portuguese Crown was transferred to Brazil and the entire royal family moved to the colony, disembarking in Brazilian territory in January 1808 and staying around here until 1821, when he returned to Portugal due to pressure from the people of that locality, who were revolting against the Portuguese monarchs and fighting for better living conditions and more freedom.

Thus, upon disembarking in Rio de Janeiro, while Dom João VI occupied the São Cristóvão Palace, Dona Carlota Joaquina went to live in a private palace in the neighborhood of Botafogo and, according to the story, there were two sleeves in the gardens of this house, which they gained the name of manga carlota and manga carlotinha. The difference is that the first bore a slightly larger fruit, while the second bore a much smaller, rounded mango. And as this last type was one of the favorites of the queen of the Portuguese Empire, it ended up being known by the name of her fan.

Thus, the Carlotinha mango has a very peculiar characteristic, as its fruit is much smaller than other types of mango, which, in general, are larger, more full-bodied or elongated, depending on the mango in question.


The nutritional properties of mango carlotinha indicate that it is very rich in essential elements for our body. For example, one unit of this fruit has 0.30 grams of protein in addition to 10 grams of carbohydrates. Carlotinha mango has 39 grams of calories, which corresponds to approximately 2% of the recommended daily amount, based on a regular 2,000-calorie diet. That is, this type is low in calories.

On the other hand, it carries 10 grams of carbohydrates, corresponding to 3% of the recommended daily amount. Although it seems little, it is a small fruit, which ultimately, if consumed in a greater quantity, can contribute to weight gain. It should be noted, however, the small amount of total fat, just 0.16 grams, and saturated fat, just 0.04 grams. As you can see, the carlotinha mango carries properties that are more beneficial than harmful to health, as will be further evidenced in the following item.


Carlotinha mango has many benefits for those who consume it. One of the main ones is the fact that the fruit contributes to the proper functioning of the heart. Studies carried out by experts have shown that mango has low levels of C-reactive protein, an element that indicates the possibility of cardiac risk. This is because the soluble fiber and antioxidants present in greater amounts in this type of food help protect the arteries, contributing to their proper functioning. In addition, theft helps to lower the levels of cholesterol in the bloodstream and this is another element to help the heart have no problems

And since we are talking about antioxidants, these substances present in mangoes help fight cell degeneration, which will be beneficial not only to the vessels and the heart itself, but also to various parts of the human body. This is because antioxidants destroy free radicals present in the body and responsible for premature aging and the emergence of various types of cancer. This phenomenon basically happens due to the good presence of quercetin in the fruit. This substance in the body allies with free radicals, acting to reduce cell damage that would be caused by such elements.

Among other benefits of the carlotinha mango is the fact that it is very good for the digestive system. Yes, it’s not just papaya that’s good for the intestinal tract, mangoes can also be a great ally for those who need to get rid of constipation and get their bodies working regularly. This is because the fiber present in the fruit improves the digestive process and helps to eliminate waste that can be harmful and cause colon cancer, for example. Another positive point related to the digestive process is the fact that the mango contributes to giving more satiety to the stomach, preventing eating out of hours and in larger quantities, which could cause weight gain and other health problems.

Carlotinha mango, like the others, is rich in vitamin B6, also called pyridoxine. It is important for the formation of the hormone GABA in the brain, which is essential for its full functioning. In addition, mangoes have beta-carotene, in addition to other minerals and vitamins, which will help to replenish energy that is used up in daily life and in performing physical activities.

The immune system is also positively affected by the consumption of this fruit. That’s because it contains good amounts of vitamins A and C, which help to strengthen the immune system, preventing the occurrence of colds, flu and other infectious diseases. In addition, the beta-carotene present in food strengthens the body’s defenses. Interestingly, mango has more vitamin C than orange and lemon, which are the most popular foods to be consumed due to the high presence of this substance in its composition.
