The union between Embrapa Hortaliças and ESALQ-USP changed the direction of carrot cultivation in Brazil. In 1981, the institutions worked to improve the species “Brasilia”, resistant to fungi, adaptable throughout the country and resistant to fungi. The improvement made the vegetable become the 5th most cultivated in Brazil, with 20 thousand hectares and annual production exceeding 700 tons.
