Most fruit trees can be grown and developed through pots located in any garden or home yard. Their care does not require great knowledge in gardening and, for this reason, we have decided to make a small guide on how to grow fruit trees in pots.

Fruit trees in pots: what should we know?

Some tips

  • The best time to plant fruit trees in pots is autumn but it can really be done between the months of March and July without problem. Place it in a place with enough light.
  • You can buy your fruit tree in any nursery or plant store. You must take into account the climatic characteristics of your area to choose the most suitable species of fruit tree.
  • Dwarf fruit trees tend to produce fruit before any standard fruit tree, so if you do not have large dimensions in your yard, it is the recommended option.
  • Buy the pot of the right size for your fruit tree and keep in mind that, in some cases, it is necessary to move the pot to clean or for any other reason (a light pot will be more agile than a heavier one). Make sure that the pot of the fruit tree is larger than the one that comes with the tree and, above all, that it has sufficient drainage.

Planting fruit trees in pots step by step

  • Place a layer of stones at the bottom of the pot to facilitate drainage.
  • Use fertilizer and nutrient-rich soil and insert the tree into the center. Spread the roots and finish filling the rest of the pot with more soil.
  • Light is essential for fruit trees, so try not to place it in a place with too much shade or too much wind.
  • Water your fruit tree to keep its roots moist.
  • Change your potted fruit tree every 1 or 2 years to keep it healthy and productive.
